Album Review: Into It. Over It./Such Gold - Split
Weiss' first track, 'Washington, DC' a solid blast of rock that is similar to his other band, Stay Ahead of the Weather with a decent structure and an appreciative melody that Weiss pulls off well. Whereas 'Portland, OR' is the more favorable offering with its atmospheric tone and overall mellow approach that gives Weiss the space needed to let his lyrics breathe.
The Such Gold side kicks off with the hardcore-tinged pop-punk that was showcased on their 'Pedestals' EP. 'Minstrels' is filled with adrenaline but is balanced out well with a well-timed brigde/conclusion that shows the bands melodic side. However the highlight of the EP is 'The World That You Live In', a fiery number that on par with anything from 'Pedestals,' with Ben Kotin's rough and passionate vocals declaring "Nothing that you say will make a difference in me anyway." It's a short yet exciting blast hardcore-fueled pop-punk.
For new fans, this EP serves its purpose well. On the Into It. Over It. side you realize Weiss superb songwriting ability; making accurate and good use of his experiences. Whilst Such Gold make a grand impression and show you why they continue to win over fans with their ruthless pop-punk style.
Ultimately both bands back up any hype they may have and leave you wanting more.
