Album Review: Boys No Good - Never Felt Better

With a similar sound to highly respected pop-punk band The Wonder Years, Boys No Good without a doubt have the ideal sound with new album 'Never Felt Better'. With belting opening track 'Cutting All Ties' getting you moving from the first drumbeat, realisation hits immediately that this is an album to be set on repeat. With raw vocals from lead Jeff Harrell and traditional punk chants in the background the five-piece have got the right idea with their 12 track debut.

Meaningful lyrics are yet another attribute held by Boys No Good, 'Jeremy Drinks Bleach' opens with “It’s safe to say that misery loves company” but this is by no means a slow paced love song continuing with line “Your talk is cheap but I’m not buying what you’re selling.” With the background of pop beats showing the contrast between the emotion and music, keeping spirits up even when singing negatively. Energy pouring out of every track causes the rise of adrenaline at the mere thought of experiencing this album performed live, with songs such as 'Bold City Tigers' showing a prime example that this would be no less than perfect to a crowd full of people.

The ideal ending track 'Rosemary’s Children' finishing the way they started with enchanting beats and words that are no less than appropriate to be sung along to. Final lyric “I hope you love your new life” is powerful enough to be remembered, and deep enough to be appreciated showing a sense of empathy. It’s easy to become a fan of Boys No Good straight after listening to this album and it’s extremely clear that they’re in this for the long haul.

4/5
