Album Review: United Fruit - Fault Lines

A unique band name to go along with their unique style of music shows that United Fruit have the right idea of how to attract attention and to gain plenty of fans. Their new album 'Fault Line'" portrays a strong, raw style that they've certainly made their own, with intriguing opening track: 'Kamikaze' showing off the harsh sounds and husky vocals that are certainly apparent throughout the whole album, it's just an example of the other 8 positively rough sounding tracks that are set to impress.

Carrying on with their haunting beats, track 4 'Go Away, Don't Leave Me Alone - a sound of classic indie-rock and edginess mixed with a bit of moshing material is enough to win the crowd over with just this one track, along with the rest of the album. With slightly softer vocals and a brighter sound, the following track "Three" shows the variety held by the Glaswegian four-piece and how they're not afraid to change things up a little and pleasantly surprise their fans while still keeping the edge everyone's used to. Continuing on 'The Alarm' shows their real rock side, with repeated lyrics such as "feeling alive" and "roll baby roll baby rock and roll" it's clear an upbeat track whilst keeping their darkness strong and familiar.

A diverse band that perfectly present the version of what they think real music is, doing so in a rugged style, with a genre for people with acquired taste, United Fruit are highly recommended for fans of bands such as Sonic Youth and Shellac. 2011 is set to be the year for music of an edgier and jagged taste, with United Fruit proving that they are in this for the long haul.
