Album Review: Of Mice and Men - The Flood

Of Mice & Men fans certainly won’t be disappointed with the band’s sophomore effort. Singles like 'Still YDG’N' and 'Purified' demonstrate a good balance of clean vocals and intense screams and the record opener, 'OG Loko' sets the scene for the rest of the album with it’s heavy driving guitar riffs.

'Product of a Murder' and closing track, 'I’m A Monster' are brutal stand out tracks showcasing the band at their finest; whilst cleverly placed at the heart of the record is ballad, 'My Understandings', which mixes up 'The Flood' and demonstrates a softer side both to the genre and the band.

The quintet, who are set to embark on Warped Tour in the US this summer, have had a turbulent run of line-up changes so the move to reintroduce Austin Charlie (ex Attack Attack!) seems to have added some weight back into the line up. It also means that the band maintains the same feel to the music that came with their self titled debut.

Overall the record is a solid metalcore piece of work. The production from Jerry Sturgis (Asking Alexandria, The Devil Wears Prada & We Came As Romans) is immaculate and tight. 'The Flood' keeps it’s pace throughout through chugging, unrepentant riffs intertwined with harmonious clean vocals and implacable emotional screams.
