Album Review: I'll Fight With Fire - One Day They'll Have Secrets

Being in a female-fronted band has it’s challenges, there’s always plenty of competition and plenty of comparisons. I’ll Fight With Fire show they’re willing to use that to their advantage, by opening the EP by questioning “Would you be offended if I said you sound like a really bad version of Paramore?” A line that destroys all expectations of this band being a “Paramore-wannabe,” 'Abandon Ship We Say' kicks in with energy and strong vocals from front-woman Emilie Layla Lovaine. It’s the perfect opener for their 4-track EP. With a contrast of male backing vocals, I’ll Fight With Fire show a sense of uniqueness and keep it interesting for fans.

With intriguing beats and contagious lyrics in songs such as 'Treading Water' and 'Drowning Lessons Of A Narcoleptic”' it’s a excellent example of a debut EP.

Finishing off with 'Heavy Highs And Heavy Lows,' I’ll Fight With Fire give the crowd a chance to interact and get involved with a strong catchy chant to be sung along to and a beat to move to, it’s a song that’s clear to be a crowd favourite whenever performed. With strong lyrics; “My eyes are getting tired as we speak, these heavy hands will bring you to your knees.” It shows a sense of feeling and emotion to be related to, making it a perfect finale to a well produced EP that will be loved by fans of Paramore, and with their post-hardcore feel they’re also very attractive to fans of Emarosa.

Unfortunately I’ll Fight With Fire recently parted ways with their former guitarist and backing vocalist and are now going to be making music under a different name with the remaining band members, which will certainly be something to look out for as it’s just the beginning for them.

3.5/5
