Alter The Press! Presents: Laconia
The North East England group's latest EP, 'Reflection or Denial' is a collection of neatly crafted, melodic rock that draws comparisons to 30 Seconds To Mars (see 'Belladonna'), Incubus and Young Guns. Scott Michael Cavagan's vocals blend in well with the bands tight, metallic riffs that brings a heavy yet sensible side to the bands sound.
For Fans Of: Young Guns, Dredg, 30 Seconds to Mars, Incubus, Alexisonfire, and Glassjaw.
Interview with Ollie Rillands (Drummer)
Alter The Press: Why should Alter The Press! readers check you out?
Laconia: I think that we offer something different to what a lot of bands are doing these days, were not focussing on trying to fit into any scene or genre or jumping on any bandwagons, were just focussing on writting the biggest and catchiest songs we can. Were hopefully doing something that will stand out and that people will like and remember. Plus were all devilishly handsome.
ATP: What's the story behind the band?
Laconia: The band formed back in 2001 with a different line-up, and over the past 10 years the band have been featured in the soundtrack to the motion picture 'The Tournament' featuring Ving Rhames and Robert Carlyle, and have had features in Rock Sound and Kerrang magazine.
After a 2 year hiatus, the band re-rformed in 2010 with Ollie Rillands and Chris Davis and have gone on to support the likes of Francesqa, William Control, Twin Atlantic, Casino Brawl to name but a few.
Laconia: For me it was either playing our first gig with the new line-up last May, or seeing our EP on the shelves of HMV, they both filled me with a great sense of pride.
ATP: What are your plans for the 12 months?
Laconia: We are filming a video for our second single at the end of the month, and then hopefully we will be goin back into the studio in the summer to work on our next 2 singles. We plan to book some great shows this year, both headlining and supporting some big named acts.
