Album Review: City Light Thief - Laviin
As soon as 'Driftwood' hits, you’re confronted with front man Benni’s distinctive vocals and the outro to 'Golden Roots' is an absolute delight as you head further into the album, the influences that City Light Thief have taken on board are pretty clear, there are massive elements of the likes of The Fall Of Troy and Thursday with the former being more noticeable.
Next up is 'An Alpine Idyll' a driving anthem that forces you to sit up and take notice, it ends on an outro that is intense enough to leave you wanting more, and that’s what this album does so spectacularly, makes you want to hear more, whether it’s the technical brilliance of 'Architect Vs Avalanche' or the catchiness of 'Circa Now' there’s always something to keep you interested, album closer 'Pioneers' is an organ led song that helps close the record on a grander scale, as it edges towards its epic crescendo, you get the feeling that you have something special on your hands.
Laviin is a triumph from start to finish, it’s a well thought and well put together record that’ll leave you with a massive grin on your face, a very impressive debut album from a very impressive band
