Alter The Press! Presents: The American Scene
Having played music together in various different incarnations, the five-piece have now found their feet with a solid indie/pop-punk sound. Backed by Pure Noise Records and having toured with the likes of Handguns, The Story So Far and Forever Came Calling, The American Scene have a bright future ahead of them and we're certain this is one band you don't want to miss out on in the coming months.
For Fans Of: The Starting Line, Taking Back Sunday and Jimmy Eat World.
Alter The Press: Why should Alter The Press! readers check you out?
The American Scene: We are a bunch of down to earth hard working guys. These days there are thousands of small bands and a lot of them are worth checking out musically. But when it comes down to it, a band is more than music. If a band doesn't have good character, it doesn't matter how good their music may be, they wont get anywhere. I believe we have good character and meaning behind what we are doing. All of us play music because its what our hearts make us do, not because we are looking for a paycheck.
ATP: What's the story behind the band?
TAS: We all went to high school in the same town and we were all always in bands. Whether they be hardcore, punk, or indie we all grew up playing music around each other. Almost four years after high school Dave Matt and myself were all living together in Berkeley and hadn't had any substantial musical projects in a long time. We were dying to get out and play music to people again. So we called Chris up asked if he would be interested and we went from there. Zac is a relatively new addition but we have been friends since middle school. Dave, Matt, Zac and I actually had a pop punk band together when I was probably 16 years old. We never made it out of the garage though.
ATP: Single highlight as a band so far?
TAS: This past tour we did with Handguns and Forever Came Calling blew my mind. Those are some of the hardest working guys and really inspirational. We did about two weeks with them on the West Coast DIY style playing houses, punk collectives and anywhere that would have us really. It was such an amazing experience getting to interact with new people every night as well as deepening our friendship and unity as a band. I think we learned a lot about each other and what this band means to us in those two weeks. We all can't wait to hit the road again.
ATP: What are your plans for the 12 months?
TAS: Once the album comes out its going to be tour, tour, tour, for us this year. We're really trying to push that CD and see if we can build a fan base. We are a baby band and because of that we cant expect to get on any bigger tours in a support slot so it will be a lot of DIY house shows and backyards ha. Its ok though I think that's where we play the best together, that's when we are in our element.
