Album Review: Young Wolves/Anderson Mesa - Split Tape

Recently its come apparent that Ireland's music scene is becoming pretty strong and this release is a fine example of why so. Young Wolves includes members of ATP! favorites Starters, as well as Frustration and bring a pop-punk sound that is similar to that are of The Movielife and Hit The Lights. Both 'Stories' and 'Maybe This Is It' hit all the right marks and do not exceed themselves. They're fast and well-structured. It is also worth mentioning that lyrically they are reminiscent of Saves The Day.

Anderson Mesa are more loose and more "pop" with 'Walking Home' opening up with squeaky synths before settling into a driving pop-punk number. Whilst 'Main Street' is the better of the two they show here. It's straight up pop-punk and its clear why they've played with the likes of Man Overboard, as its tight and favorable.

For two slightly unknown bands, this split is an ideal introduction for both and I for one will be keeping tabs on what they do next. Young Wolves and Anderson Mesa have a "current" sound that is becoming increasingly popular, which may mean they get lost in the pop-punk merry-go-round but there is enough promise here to keep you interested long enough.

3.5/5
