Album Review: Nazca Lines - Nazca Lines

Here’s a few things that I have never said in my life: “I really wish Liverpool FC all the luck in the world – they deserve it”, “Little Britain is an under-rated piece of comic, nay, televisual , genius” and “You know what the music world needs – a poor man’s Rage Against the Machine”. Unfortunately, people will insist on believing all three of them. Nazca Lines have set about addressing the last proposition – for some inexplicable reason.

'This Crippled Devil' begins with a flurry of distorted guitars and frantic drumming, punctuated with the semi-spoken word vocals almost immediately grating. A chorus line that irritates and means nothing – the double-dose of disappointment. 'This Little Island' tries it’s hardest to sound like Alec Eiffel but fails –breaking down into a Flobot’s style middle before sliding back into familiar, and uncomfortable, RATM cover band territory.

If you like RATM, shouty/spoken word vocals and lyrics written by 12 year olds then Nazca Lines are for you. Sounding curiously British, for a Seattle band at least, Nazca Lines fuse indie, grunge and post-punk into something that is far less than the sum of its parts. On the plus side – it’s only three songs long.

1/5
