Album Review: Forever Wednesday - Depths
'Depths' is a great album that will keep you coming back again and again. The album starts off with ‘Rebirth’, an instrumental track that slowly builds up as an introduction to ‘Define Irony’. ‘Irony’ is a great introductory track to the band’s vocal and musical style. It walks the line between punk and hardcore perfectly, and keeps discernable elements from both styles. ‘Irony’ is followed up by ‘Mr Wolf’, a 3 minute hardcore jam with lots of screaming, and melodic choruses. Both of these tracks are good, but they don’t even touch the nearly perfect ‘Viruses’.
‘Viruses’ is the reason this listener fell in love with ‘Depths’, and is pretty much a summation of what the album sounds like. With a dynamic sound and a hook that will keep you singing into the breakdown, ‘Viruses’ absolutely grabs the listener and won’t let go. Vocals sound great in the melodic sections, and the composition of the music is flawless. It turns out to be one hell of a track. Other highlights not mentioned in detail include the more subdued ‘Vanish and Vacate’, ‘Days of Youth’ and ‘Spitting Bullets’.
The only track this listener wasn’t a big fan of was ‘The Deserter’. After all of the adrenaline pumping thrills that the first few tracks produce, ‘Deserter’ seemed to kill the energy a little bit. Luckily ‘Days of Youth’ picks the tempo back up.
'Depths' is an excellent debut from Forever Wednesday. Fans of punk, hardcore and melodic metal should definitely check Forever Wednesday out. 'Depths' will pull you in and definitely keep you entertained.
