Alter The Press! Presents: Modern Superstitions

With a hint of a vintage 60's blue, mixed with a blend of PJ Harvey and The White Stripes, Toronto's Modern Superstitions manage to make a satisfying, easy-going sound with their latest release, 'All The Things We've Been Told'. A tight, garage rock sound provides a strong background to Nyssa Rosaleen's soothing vocals.

Tracks like 'Visions of You' and 'Everything Is Not Mine' sees the young quartet making good use of the occasional punk influence and showing signs of loose energy. If you like your music with a hint of female-led old rock & roll feel, then Modern Superstitions are worth giving a listen.

For Fans Of: The White Stripes and The Velvet Underground.

Alter The Press: Why should Alter The Press! readers check you out?
Modern Superstitions: There are any number of reasons why your readers ought to throw one of our records on their trusty hi-fi; a desire for spiritual edification, an insatiable yearning for top-notch rock & roll music or simple boredom. No matter the case, we’ve got a cure for what ails you.

ATP: What's the story behind the band?
MS: We've known each other an awfully long time and started playing together in High School to ward off boredom and emulate some of our favorite groups. After much playing and many a fuzzy eardrum, we stumbled upon our own particular sound, presented thus for your enjoyment.

ATP: Single highlight as a band so far?
MS: Playing with Jay Reatard, Reigning Sound, Sloan, recording with Patrick Pentland and playing Virgin Festival. I suppose that's more than one, isn't it? If you say them all very quickly, without pause, it sounds like one great big word.

ATP: What are your plans for the 12 months?
MS: The coming year will be haunted by the specter of 2012 and our collective anxiety at the coming End Times. When not busy cowering in fear we'll be writing as much as possible, wearing sensible shoes, touring, drinking nice hot tea and finishing our concept album about a Mayan astronomer, loosely modeled after John Cusack.

'All The Things We've Been Told' by Modern Superstitions is available now on Pink Noise/Last Gang Records.
