Album Review: Brokencyde - ...Will Never Die

It’s hard to believe only a year and a half has passed since the classic game-changer ‘I’m Not A Fan, But The Kids Like It!’ came out challenged the idea of music as we know it. With its brilliant blend of contrarian genres, mature lyrics and thoughtful musicianship. Thankfully, Brokencyde have decided to grace our existence yet again with their sophomore album ‘Will Never Die’. Opening with a witty self-derision intro that will most certainly silence all you haterz out there, Brokencyde get ready to do it again, and again, and again, and again.

While ‘Always Go Hard’, ‘SHAKE!’ and ‘Da House Party’ all perfectly embody the incest of pop, r’n’b, electro and screaming girls, ‘High Timez’, on the other hand, effortlessly rapes the memory of Bob Marley in glorious fashion. Silky vocals and brilliance galore as Brokencyde’s lyricists are allowed to get right back into their stride of screeching about shaking, jumping, dancing, grinding, moving and, occasionally, the odd nod to the female anatomy.

Misogyny aside, the band also bless the songs every so often with interlude skits that recall some of Eminem’s classic early work, only devoid of character, humour and relevance. It is truly hard to grasp exactly what is appealing in what Brokencyde have to offer, but if musical genocide is your thing. Dig in.
