Alter The Press! Presents: Make Me King

With their first CD ('The Whisper Is A Hint') release set for November and UK dates in the works, Preston's Make Me King are set to make their mark on the UK pop-punk scene. Signed to Manchester's Riot Pop label and already an appearance on Alter The Press' very own 'ATP! 2010.02' compilation, MMK have been building a strong following with shows alongside, A Loss For Words, The Wonder Years, Deaf Havana and In Gratitude. Whilst 'The Whisper Is A Hint' sees the band working with acclaimed producer Romesh Dodangoda (Attack! Attack (UK), Funeral For A Friend and Not Advised) and the engineer behind You Me At Six, Matty O’Grady.

Make Me King's infectious pop-punk sound is bound to win fans over the next twelve months, as tracks like 'Every Truth or Dare' and 'Brand New' showcase their strong harmonies and superb choruses.

Alter The Press: Alter The Press: Why should Alter The Press! readers check you out?
Make Me King: We’re Make Me King and we think you should check us out because we’re about to release our first CD which will be available around November time (pre orders up soon) through Riot Pop Records. This CD has been 2 years worth of hard work and I guess you could see it as a symbol of how far we’ve come as a band since we started out.

So far, we’ve focused a lot more on writing than playing shows, but despite this and the fact that we’ve not yet released a CD, we’ve been able to generate quite a buzz locally recently and we’ve also been honoured to share the stage with some great bands.

All ATP readers and fans of bands that Riot Pop has worked with should give us a listen when the CD comes out and please let us know what you think.

ATP: What's the story behind the band?
MMK: The band is made up of Sean Marshall (Vocals), Joey Hepburn (Guitar), Jack Mason (Guitar), Lewis Clark (Bass) and Daniel Quinn (Drums). We all started out in out last year of college, all leaving dysfunctional bands and combining our own musical interest to create Make Me King. We’re still the original line up from when we first started out 2 years ago and we’re all best of friends.

After a name change and various musical style changes we find ourselves where we’re at now. There’s nothing original or interesting about how we started out. We started out just like most bands.

ATP: Single highlight as a band so far?
MMK: Having the privilege to record with two of the best producers/engineers in the country for our particular style of music. Working with Romesh Dodangoda (Kids In Glass Houses, Funeral For A Friend) and Matty O’Grady (You Me At Six, Deaf Havana) has been great and they’ve really got our tracks sounding spot on.

The whole feeling of being away with your best friends is incredible too. Spending time with them at home is nothing like being in a van with them and sleeping wherever you can knowing that at the end of however long you are there, you’re going to be leaving with a track that’s going to be listened to over and over again by a bunch of people.

ATP: What are your plans for the 12 months?
MMK: After the release of our CD the writing process will begin again and we will be touring the hell out of the CD, putting in the yards and gaining exposure the hard way whilst also maintaining everything on the social network side of things. We’re on Facebook, Twitter, all of the usual channels and you can hear a couple of our tunes on our Myspace page too. We’re hoping (but not expecting) that this will increase our chances of getting to play a few very decent shows and enable us to recruit some fans along the way.

We will then probably be looking at recording a new CD sometime next year and then the cycle starts over.

'The Whisper Is A Hint' is released on November 1st on Riot Pop.

Make Me King on MySpace, Twitter and Facebook.
