Album Review: Dinosaur Pile-Up - Growing Pains
Throughout the bands momentum is kept to its maximum pace, as tracks like 'Mona Lisa' and 'My Rock 'n' Roll' are fast-paced and keep that subtle grungy feel to the bands sound going. However the favourable 'Never That Together' is slightly more upbeat, with its Weezer-like guitars and delivery and a hook that shows a slight hint of variation.
Nevertheless Dinosaur Pile-Up certainly know how to pull off the thrash alt-rock style, as it continuously pops up time and time again; 'Love To Hate Me' is a messy, guitar-driven number that despite it somewhat repetitious style, you can't help but enjoy and its clear on 'Traynor' that the band are also enjoying themselves, it sounds like one big, messy rock n roll party with thrashing guitars and drums dominating.
Overall 'Growing Pains' is a raw, explosive alt-rock record that sees a band keeping it basic, yet at the same time enjoyable as Dinosaur Pile-Up pour themselves out both musically and lyrically, as their frustrations have been put into every list bit of this record. If rowdy guitars, thrashing drums and bass-driven songs are your thing; with a slight hint of 90's nostalgia, then you'll love Dinosaur Pile-Up.
