A Common Year
For Fans Of: Jimmy Eat World, The Dangerous Summer
Indianapolis quartet A Common Year decide to take the DIY route with 'Between Cities', an album which the band wrote, recorded, engineered, produced, mastered and released by themselves. The resulting album is a strong collection of straight-up, feel good rock songs. With comparisons to Jimmy Eat World and The Dangerous Summer, their truthful, realist approach is admirable and leads to a consistent batch of songs. Don't be surprised to hear more of A Common Year somewhere down the line.
ATP: Why should Alter The Press readers check you out?
A Common Year: We're a band that has so much passion for music that we decided to spend countless hours self-producing and self-recording our debut album, Between Cities - and then give it away for free. We're a band with diverse musical interests and each of us has a different creative input to each song. We strive to not limit ourselves in terms of genre, but to just write the best songs that we possibly can.
ATP: ATP: What's the story behind the band?
ACY: Coleman (Bright - guitarist/vocalist) and Casey (Baksa - guitarist/vocalist) began to learn guitar together and started writing music in their late high school years. We played music under different names and with different line-ups. A Common Year as it is today, with Jake (Bergman) on drums and Matt (Ritter) on bass, has been together for under a year. We've never been more excited about the talent in this band.
ATP: Single highlight as a band so far?
ACY: Recording 'Between Cities' is definitely our greatest accomplishment so far. It will be something that we'll always look back on and be proud that we did it by ourselves.
ATP: What are your plans for the 12 months?
ACY: Three of us have just graduated college, so we will be focusing more of our time on music. We couldn't be more excited about the new songs that we're writing and the direction the band is heading right now. We just practiced the new songs together for the first time, and it was the best our band has ever sounded. We plan to record an EP professionally as soon as we finish the writing process. Then we'll play shows in the US Midwest in support of the record, and try to build our fanbase locally. Keep in touch with us on our Facebook page for updates.
