Single Review Round-Up: Charlee Drew, Twin Atlantic, Straight Lines & Kyte

This Single Review Round-Up includes singles from Charlee Drew, Twin Atlantic, Straight Lines & Kyte.

Charlee Drew - Sugar Rush
Released on LAB Records on July 19th via iTunes.

LAB Records' ever-growing family welcomes Charlee Drew, which could be described as a cross between The Morning Of's soulful pop and Lost On Campus' pleasing and sensible songwriting. Like his label mates its clear Drew knows how to showcase his talents instantly, as 'Sugar Rush' is piano-charged, summery number that is laid back and leaves with a promising impression of Drew.

Twin Atlantic - Human After All
Available now through Red Bull Records

Scotland's Twin Atlantic latest offering continues the bands momentum with 'Human After All'; a driving, spikey slice of alternative rock that has won fans over on both sides of the Atlantic. Although slightly lyrically darker, the bands intricate guitar work brings the light relief to provide an interesting and creditable conclusion to the track.

3/5

Straight Lines - Loose Change
Available now through Xtra Mile Records

One of highlights from Straight Lines' 'Persistence In This Game' comes in the form of 'Loose Change'; a catchy rock number with strong harmonies throughout and is favourable for its upbeat tempo and well-delivered lead vocals. Despite the full-length being a mixed bag; lets hope 'Loose Change' is a sign of better things to come.

Kyte - Designed For Damage
Released on July 26th through KIDS

If anyone who has seen my pieces on Leicestership electro-ambient group Kyte before, then you'll know I can't hardly any fault and once again 'Designed For Damage' does not disappoint. Distant beeps, intense whispered vocals and all-round atmospheric sound is the main body is heard here. With a structure that builds to the point where you're left wanting more at the conclusion.

B-sides 'I'll Follow Dreams For You' and 'The Lost Blood' sees the bands atmospheric, electronic increase with the latter being a choppy, breezy number with the former seeing the use of speedy drum 'n' bass-like drums being used against a contrast calm vocal delivery. Whilst 'Memories' is a slow-burning, drum-heavy string-led track that despite its length, is brilliantly pulled off as its strucuture, for the most part, keeps you guessing and at the same time you can't help enjoy the bands talent.
