Exclusive Sam Little Tour Blog: Day One

For the next couple of weeks acoustic-pop singer-songwriter and all round top guy, Sam Little will be sending in blog updates from his current UK tour.

Day One: Purple Turtle, London

"My bags are packed, my merch is organised, my guitar's all set up and my body already aches.

So after spending all morning packing my life away into a rucksack and putting my merch into the largest suitcase, that is ultimately going to be the bane of my life. I've spent three hours travelling and I'm in London. Camden's Purple Turtle to be precise. If you've ever been you'll know what it's like but for those that don't, it's an alternative club complete with strip pole and everything's laced with a dingy feel/look. Standard. I've been thrown onto a clubnight called Wasteman, which is full of cheesy pop/pop-punk/r&b hits, as part of a pre-club show. So no guesses as to why I agreed to play. Things are gonna get real.

Joining me are Luminaires and my good friends in Avosetta. I have a feeling it's gonna be a fun, if not almost comical night. Doors opened half an hour ago and there's no one here and I'm staying with the promoter tonight, who's running the clubnight, and we're expected to get home to his around 4am. I would say I'm gonna need to be drunk to make it through the night but cheesy pop music is my element haha.

The merch table looks so out of place. Doused in more fairy lights than George Michael's bathroom*. My suitcase full of merch is lying underneath. For some reason I thought that was a good idea. I should mention, as I don't drive, I'm doing everything on public transport or jumping in band vans.

I don't know why I don't drive. It's nothing to do with protecting the environment or anything. I just don't. Though, I always get really tempted to learn whenever I'm travelling on the London underground. People don't like me much on the tube, I'm that heavily tattooed prick with a massive bag on his bag, a suitcase and a guitar taking up three spaces, oh yeah. Despite the amount I spend on travelling and how hard it can be, I love doing this.

It's 9:15, doors have been open nearly 2 hours and there's still NO one here. Admittedly, the whole 'bands before the clubnight' thing was decided about three days ago but it's still ridiculous. I'm slowly starting to believe that only real kids go to shows, and the rest spend their entire lives stuck on the internet, probably reading rubbish blogs ;)

In a side note; Avosetta are so good. They're giving it their all even though there's no one here. I nearly threw my back out throwing down, I swear I'm 80.

So, pointless show over. I'm calling it pointless, not because there was no one watching or even because I'm not getting paid for it, but because I feel really disheartened now. I'd love to say my life is one massive party and tour is the best thing, but sometimes I really wonder why I do this. I make music because I love it, not because of anything else but sometimes it'd be nice to be reminded that people care. Ah well, I'm gonna stand around awkwardly till 4am, while the promoter DJs, till we can go home. Love life. Not like this is day one or anything.

*p.s. I don't know if George Michael has fairy lights in his bathroom, I was merely noting it looks pretty fucking poncy!
