Album Review: Fact - In The Blink Of An Eye

Japanese mask-wearing group, Fact's second UK outing, 'In The Blink Of An Eye' is an energetic and surprising record. Their style is a blend of metal riffs and pop-punk choruses with the occasional scream. Whilst it is a style not all that original, it is still effective.

From the blasting beats of the opening title track, to the instantly enjoyable and upbeat 'Slip Of The Lip', to the alt-rock, commercial friendly tone of 'Dec 2, Fact have plenty about them to gain new fans and plenty of variation (see interlude track '1-3').

Although the band's overall style begins to grate towards the end, there are still a few noteworthy tracks; 'Fade' fits in well and could be compared to Thirty Seconds To Mars and 'Goodbye to Good Morning' shows the bands potential of the band becoming a major radio-friendly.

In conclusion, 'In The Blink Of An Eye' is a good record and Fact have some strong ideas, but at times you feel that they are going off in different directions. One moment they're a hard-hitting pop-punk band, the next they're a hook-filled alt-rock radio band. Whilst neither of these brings the record down, you find that the combination of the two could of been used better at times, as at times some ideas seem recycled.
