Alter The Press: Why should Alter The Press! readers check you out?
Authors: Authors is a fresh new band that appeals to listeners of all musical preferences. Grasping heavy and technical guitar work, powerful vocals, and catchy singing parts, the songs are aimed to be a breath of fresh air for listeners to what is an over saturated genre.
ATP: What's the story behind the band?
Authors: Coming together in the Fall of 2010, previous members of various signed and unsigned Florida bands joined to create what is now known to be Orlando-based "Authors." At the time, the members were not all living in the same neighborhood, city, or even the same state as each other. Split up between Boston, Chicago, and Florida, their first EP was developed through countless emails, sheet music, videos, and home recordings. In early January of 2011, the members came together in Valdosta, GA to record with Producer/Engineer Lee Dyess (Mayday Parade, From First To Last, I Set My Friends On Fire.) This was the first time that a few of the members had met in person, and a first for all of them to hear their musical creations come to life. With all members of the band now based out of Orlando, FL, the next few months will prove to be an exciting period for listeners everywhere.
ATP: Single highlight as a band so far?
Authors: Since we're such an new band, the first real highlight was our time spent at Earth Sound Recording. Lee Dyess is a phenominal producer and a good friend of ours. Meeting together for the first time, recording the songs we've spent so long writing together, and finally hearing the finished product, was a really rewarding experience.
Besides that, I think a highlight for our band was the great response we've had from all the listeners. We were featured on the front page of Purvolume, had an exclusive EP stream on the front page of AMP magazine's website, and had hundreds of copies of our EP downloaded in the first week of it launching on iTunes. We just can't wait to continue writing and share even more of our musical creativity with everyone.
ATP: What are your plans for the 12 months?
Authors: We're planning on a great deal of new, exciting things for Authors in 2011. We'll be heading back into the studio in July-August to release some of our favorite music we've written to date, branching out to play in areas of the country we've never been to before, and continuing to expand and keep in touch with our growing fan-base.
