Album Review: We Are The Ocean - Cutting Our Teeth

We Are The Ocean have been around the UK for awhile now, establishing as one of the countries hardest working bands, with numerous tours under their belts including shows with The Used, The Blackout, You Me At Six and countless others. For some the bands debut full-length, 'Cutting Our Teeth' is long overdue and is record that turns out to be pretty impressive and ticks all the right boxes.

'Look Alive' sets the standard with spiraling guitars and vocalist's Dan Brown and Liam Cromsby battle it out, with Brown providing the screams and Cromsby bringing the melodies that bring a sense of accessibility, to the bands post-hardcore style.

Whereas tracks like 'Our Days Are Numbered' and 'These Days, I Have Nothing' are more powerful, they add an element of consistency. The former has driving guitars and drums, that compliments the vocals well especially Cromsby's.

Although there is an element of predictability, We Are The Ocean still manage to keep your attention throughout, as each track has its strong point and the band have perfected the loud-quiet post-hardcore genre. Other tracks that are worth mentioning are 'Confessions', a sombre and intense number, whilst closing track 'This Is Called My Home' has a epic feeling with pounding drums and spiraling guitars.

We Are The Ocean may have be written off by some as Alexisonfire wannabes, however 'Cutting Our Teeth' firmly counter-argues that fact, as it is a record that shows a band that have a point to prove and one that is certainly is proven. It is a record that could possibly take them to the next level, if it is given a chance.
