Album Review: Tell It To The Marines - Bridges EP

After the promising recent single 'Fireworks', Tell It To The Marines unleash their debut EP 'Bridges'. The Cambridge 4-piece showcase atmospheric guitars with adrenaline-filled vocals. From opening track 'Flareguns', the echo-y, distant guitars compliment Timi Hyland's confident and calm vocals, as the rest of group cry out 'Alive!, Alive!'.

'My New Best Friend' is a stomping, upbeat number with mature lyrics that are delivered with plenty of attitude and passion, that adds depth to the bands atmospheric indie-rock.

The bands forecful, echo-y guitars provide a subtle post-rock vibe throughout, this can be heard on '806', which on face value is your standard indie rock number but this subtleness is shown towards the tracks end.

Next comes 'Fireworks', with swirling guitars and vocals that draw the listener in, which leads up well to Hyland crying out "these fireworks are above us" during a chorus that is memorable and well written.

The title-track nicely rounds off the EP, with striking drums and laid back vocals guiding the track to a point, where the band let off with group vocals singing "woah" before bringing the listener back down intimately, then sweetly guitars dominate to round off a superb performance from the band.

If you wereto class 'Bridges' under 'for fans of', Editors and Brand New come to mind, as the formers faintly grand soundscape is blended in well with the latters passionate and mature songwriting. Tell It To The Marines position themselves in a place, where they have potential to grow and make their music sound even more grand.
