Album Review: Fighting Fiction - A Lesser Of Two Evils EP

Bristol four-piece Fighting Fiction are described as an indie rock band with a reggae tinge and socially aware lyrics. That is exactly waht you get with the title track, as a bouncy bassline slides into a fierce rock chorus is listenable yet not overall original.

'Cameraphones And Choruses' proves to be more favourable, as it leans to the bands more rock side. The bands tight performance is especially worth highlighting, as is the group vocal section. Whereas 'You Mean The World To Me' takes a page out of Frank Turner's British folk-punk book, as the acousitc-based number heavily shows the bands social-related lyrics with that confident British tone.

Closing track 'Sanctuary' sees the band going back to their slightly reggae sound and follows a similar structure to that of the opening track. This brings the EP to a disappointing end, as it is a track that can be described plain and simply as ok.

For a debut EP, Fighting Fiction have shown their ambition and there are hints of original ideas but for the most part, half of this EP is a case of heard it all before.
