Album Review: Broadway Calls - Good News, Bad Views

Broadway Calls have been one of those bands that have been getting a bit of hype here and there for awhile now. Here in the UK, they've toured with bands such as Alkaline Trio and played the 2008 Give It A Name festival. During this time, the band built up enough momentum to grab the attention of SideOneDummy Records, which leads us to here. The bands second full-length, 'Good News, Bad Views', a record with 12 songs full of end to end pop-punk hooks, played at a furious pace with plenty of adrenaline.

From the start, the upbeat songs come thick and fast with 'Midnight Hour'. A track filled with energy and confidence. Whereas tracks like 'Be All You Can't Be' and 'Election Night' continue the positive trend, as Ty Vaughn's vocals sing loud and proud throughout, which he has every reason to.

In the space of just over half an hour, Broadway Calls manage to squeeze in song after song of perfect pop-punk with plenty of singalongs throught; especially on 'Tonight's Alive' and 'The Wake Up Call'. They are able to blend vocal melodies well, and keep up the momentum at the same time.

However at times you feel that once you've heard a few tracks, you're heard them all. Nevertheless to their credit, 'Good News, Bad Views' is a simple, harmless enjoyable record, that does not need slick production or trendy clothing brands to win fans over. Alternatively they strip away the unwanted fat and are left with a consistent record that, you will helplessly play again and again.

4/5

'Good News, Bad Views' by Broadway Calls is available now on SideOneDummy Records
