Album Review: Rifle Fire Rifle - The Doppler Effect

Orignally from Dublin and now based in Leeds, Rifle Fire Rifle are a three-piece band who play post punk music, combined with progressive elements. 'The Doppler Effect' is a 3 track EP, starts off with the title track, that contains soothing guitar and vocals (by Phil Keogh) that is backed up with a driving bass line and steady tempo, that is reminscent of The Fall of Troy and At The Drive In.

Whilst 'Burn To Exile' has a more rocking sound with a slight hook. The lyrics arn't great and could be better, the band make up for it the amount of talent they have for playing their instruments, even though the track could of been shorter.

The final track is called 'Rio De Janeiro', a slightly edgier and angrier track with straining vocals, that are delivered perfectly. It rounds off the EP nicely, with its bassy breakdown and scattered drumming.

'The Doppler Effect' is an EP that has potential, however this is hidden underneath the simplity of the band; at times it fails to grab the listener's attention but it does grow on you. Nevertheless the bands musicianship can be admired and is a highlight of the EP, as they are tight and complex in their performance.

2.5/5

'The Doppler Effect' by Rifle Fire Rifle is released on June 22nd.
